All students have the opportunity to perform at the end of every term.

Why?

Confidence! Achieving a goal whilst overcoming your fears, showing off your talent and being a part of a positive electric group of people is something to be embraced. Confidence does not appear by performing just once a year - it's a result of doing something over and over 1. again. Therefore performing regularly is the key to receiving confidence and it is this confidence that overflows into every area of your life.

The fun factor! Performances aren't just about dancing on stage; it's about the whole experience: It's about practicing, visualising, being creative when dressing up, getting together with other dance members in the dressing room and sharing the excitement, soaking in the electric energy, being backstage filled with enthusiasm ready to burst out on the stage, expressing yourself in the moment on the stage, showcasing your unique style and talent, going back stage and screaming out YESSSSS I DID IT! The exhilaration, the satisfaction and the sheer joy is priceless. That's why we perform. It's a memory that will always stand out in your mind forever.

The performances are beneficial not only for students, but also for parents. The proud smile on your face as a parent, seeing your child on stage, pushing through the barriers of self-doubt and fear to coming alive with confidence, expression and acceptance is a remarkable experience. The feeling is something that reminds you of why you are a parent - to see your child grow - breaking free from a cocoon and emerging into a beautiful butterfly filled with confidence and beauty is something you want to treasure.

Where?

We hire private venues (school halls), where tickets will need to be purchased (kept at a minimum where possible). Dates and venues are listed on the Noticeboard page for your perusal.

School halls have been a blessing to Backstreet as it still provides students with a theatre experience - eg. stage lighting, backstage, large audience, fog, music, etc. The students love it!!

How?

Each term, newsletters are sent home with the students to inform parents of coming events. They will contain all the details you need to know.

Is it compulsory?

Absolutely not. However because the performances are so beneficial to self-esteem and having fun - 99% of students are always eager to perform. Students need something to look forward to and aim for - performances give you motivation to attend dance classes with enthusiasm and confidence. Everyone needs a reason to do something - performances is one reason to practice dance.

"Firstly, Wow what a night!! Don't know what the show was like from the front - but from the back -it was AWESOME!!!!

You have really handpicked the best assistant teachers there are! They are a credit to you! Every time I stuck my head out the door to check on the next class - the teachers had them all lined up, marked off the list, in order, and in some cases - even warmed up and having gone through the routine outside! They were truly amazing!! They made my job easy!!

I was truly proud of every one of those teens last night! From the hip hoppers to the contemporary - they all got in and helped each other! I noticed after the Teen hip hop group came off - there were about 5 of them that had to change for the Jazz class! Just about every hip hopper went into the tent to assist them with getting ready!! And believe me - trying to get stockings on hot sweaty bodies is no easy fete!!!!! (Whose idea was that?? !!!) Even Dylan was roped into assisting them! He did an awesome job of holding the mirror for the girls so that they could put on finishing touches; adjust costumes etc - and he just stood there holding the mirror as if it was the most important job of the night! Well done, Dylan! No job is too small to make a difference!!

We had teens helping adults with Thriller - and adults helping the teens with their costumes. It really was a great working experience outside! It just shows how well these guys all get along! Doesn't matter what class it was - everyone got in to help!

Ahh! And Miss Amanda!! - so good to have her back in the family!!! For someone who didn't know what she was going to do backstage - she certainly did heaps!! She painted all the faces; assisted all the students to make their quick changes; assisted with makeup and costumes; got all the younger students psyched up to go on and generally was everybodies right hand man (or woman!!). She was everywhere all at once! Wonderful to have her back!!
